HOW DOES LUMECCA IPL WORK?
Chromophores in the skin cells are responsible for the brown (melanin) or red (hemoglobin) pigments in the skin. These chromophores absorb the flash of light delivered through the laser wavelengths and are broken down and destroyed. Brown pigments flake off the skin while red pigments are eliminated through the lymphatic system.
HOW MANY SESSIONS of Lumecca IPL WILL I NEED?
Lumecca can often improve the clarity of the skin with a single treatment, leaving it looking younger and rejuvenated. But depending on the extent and condition of the treatment area, 1-3 treatments may be necessary.
WHAT IS THE DOWNTIME of Lumecca IPL?
After your treatment, you may experience a slight sunburn feeling. Redness, some itching, and swelling can occur. This should subside within 24 hours. You will notice the pigmented areas darkening, like coffee grounds on the skin. This is entirely normal and part of the healing process. It’s important not to pick at these areas, but allow them to fall off naturally. In 7-10 days the darkened pigmentation will flake off, and the final result is a luminous, clear skin tone. In the meantime, makeup can be worn immediately and can cover up the skin for an even appearance. It is crucial to avoid direct sun exposure for 2 weeks following your IPL treatment.
What is the difference between Lumecca IPL and standard IPL or BBL?
Lumecca IPL is a newer, more advanced technology. It has a higher peak power that effectively targets both melanin and hemoglobin in different layers of the skin. Lumecca IPL uses 3x the energy compared to other lasers. Results are seen in 1-2 sessions vs. 4-6 in standard IPL or BBL technologies.
WHAT AREAS CAN BE TREATED with IPL?
Lumecca IPL can be used on all areas of the body. The most common areas of treatment are zones that are regularly exposed to the sun. This often includes the face, neck, décolletage, legs, hands and arms.
HOW DO I PREPARE FOR MY Lumecca IPL TREATMENT?
Avoid sun exposure for 2 weeks prior to treatment, and use an SPF 30 or higher (making sure to reapply every 2 hours when in the sun). This is a must and no exceptions will be made. The laser works by targeting darker pigments and cannot distinguish the presence of a tan including a sunless tanner, leading to possible skin damage.
Do not apply self tanners or spray tans for 2 weeks before treatment.
Avoid the use any retinol, retinol products, salicylic products, or exfoliation products 2 to 3 days prior treatment.
Let your provider know if you have a history of cold sores.
If possible, please come to your appointment with the treatment area clean and without make-up or any cosmetic products.
